Time for a Sumo Post

It's been awhile since I posted about sumo, so I thought I'd give everyone a break from my recent insect chat and talk about my other Japanese obsession.

Last week, a group of 13 professional sumo wrestlers left Japan for 6-day "Fellowship and Peace" in Israel. There, they visited hospitals, put on a sumo exhibition, visited holy sites in Jeruselum, and, of course, made a stop at the Dead Sea. Below are some pics from that stop.

The writing on the first two sumo wrestlers means, "Dead Sea". I'm not sure about the last two. (Alex, would you be able to help?)

Due to its mineral-rich water, EVERYONE floats when in the Dead Sea. As you can see, the wrestlers seem to appreciate this fact.

Bulgarian wrestler Kotooshu enjoys reading a newspaper. Wanna bet it's not written in Japanese?

If you've been keeping up with the Guch blogs, you know that foreign residents of the prefecture recently held their own sumo tournament on the beach. Judging by this picture, they've possibly started a new trend.

It seems that the sumo wrestlers really enjoyed their foreign travel (at least based on press releases). It's a good thing, too, as they won't be able to leave Japan for another 2 years--It's against sumo regulations.
