Surprising Choices
I told the boys that they could each pick one thing at the grocery store for us to have as part of our dinner. After vetoing their first choices (both selected ice cream), they settled on food that was a bit more traditional Japanese than I had been expecting.
Everett's choice:
Everett's choice:
Sashimi (raw fish & shrimp).Jared's choice:
Shirasu. (Tiny white fish, meant to be eaten raw and whole, usually atop of rice).
A closer look at Jared's choice....Dinner should be interesting.

:
I love your boys... I hope they can cope with American food when they get home.
Ewww I hate those little fish!! they sneak into everything too!
did they choose that stuff because they genuinely like it??
The kids genuinely like Japanese food. I'm told by Everett's teachers that he eats even the things that many Japanese children won't eat. And Jared's teacher says that Jared always finishes his lunch and usually has seconds.
I myself love sashimi, but had never had the little fish before, except in bento or restaurants. They were surprisingly good, I thought. It was funny that the boys chose those things given a choice of anything except ice cream or candy.
Well, when you can't have ice cream or candy...
