Jared has a school
ensoku (field trip) scheduled for tomorrow. If it's raining, they will stay at school and do work instead. To make sure the latter doesn't happen, Jared's currently busy at work making
teruterubouzu (see left;
lit., "shining boys"). According to superstition, if you make these ghost-like paper dolls an hang them upright, they will bring good weather. If you hang them upside-down, they will bring the opposite. Occasionally, I have seen my Japanese co-workers use the inverted method in hopes that the weather would become bad enough for classes to be canceled. Here's hoping Jared's
teruterubouzu work!

That is so cool. I am very superstitious. Did it work???
I am sorry for Jared. If the weather there is anything like Iwata, he didn't go.
Unfortunately, it's pouring down rain here today, so I guess the charm didn't work. (i_i) It was a good try, though.
Did someone step on a spider...causing the rain?
Actually, I stepped on a spider, but I didn't know it caused rain. Oh no! I'd better not tell Jared.
Almost looks like the ghosts I used to make for Halloween back when I was in elementary school.
