A Few "Golden" Memories
In an effort to save money, prepare for our return to the States, and because hubby had a judo tournament to attend (He took 3rd place--Yay!), we stayed in the Shimonoseki area for Golden Week. Below are some pics of festivities, et cetera.

Re-enactment of the famous 1185 sea battle of Dannoura, in which two warring clans took part--the Heike and the Genji, during which a child emperor was drowned. Incidentally, this isn't the most recent time there's been ship battles in the area. From 1863 to 1864, there were battles in the same waters involving Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, and the United States against a powerful Japanese warlord clan who wanted to drive foreigners out of the country.

I don't know the reason for this ship and its surrounding festival. I just saw it docked one day during Golden Week while driving past, and couldn't resist snapping a shot.

I'll pass on the congrats. And don't worry about missing the re-enactment. It was cool but really crowded and I was almost suffocated by people while trying to take pictures. (O_o)
