Sumo Stuff

Today was an exciting day for sumo. In the 11th day of the spring tournament, Chiyotaikai got his 8th win required to secure his ranking, Kaio also had a much-needed win (but still needs to win 3 of his next 4 bouts to maintain his rank), and the Mongolian grand champion Asashoryu (above picture, left) got taken down by one of his fellow countrymen, Hakuho (above picture, right). He is now trailing Hakuho in the overall standings and could lose his second tournament in a row. (Yay!--Love him, but also like to see him lose once in a while.)

In the not-so-good sumo news, Tochiazuna received his 3rd loss in the tournament and his chances for promotion to grand champion have all but disappeared. My favorite (and now Ellen's, too), the ultra-enthusiastic Takami Sakari lost his match, but is still having a winning tournament so far.

And now for the biggest sumo news (at least in my opinion): I WILL BE LEAVING FOR OSAKA TOMORROW MORNING AND WILL SEE THE FINAL DAY OF THE SUMO COMPETITION ON SUNDAY!!! I will do my best to meet Takami and get pictures for you (but more so for me). Isn't he cute? (See the photo below--he's the bigger one.) Wish me luck!

I have returned. (FINALLY!) I had a great time but am too tired to post right now.

billychica: Yes, I'm leaving. Three years with no visits home is long enough. Plus, my kids are turning Japanese. I haven't changed my name yet. (I have to wait until I get back to the U.S.) I'm still planning on doing it, but probably not to the winning name (Rachel) because it's too similar to my middle name (Rae), and I'm told there's some famous cooking lady named "Rachael Ray".

beck: Okay, that is just rude to say you have gossip and leave me hanging! What is it?!!!

Everyone Else: Thanks for the messages. I will get to posting soon, hopefully.
