Akemashite omedetou!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE! I hope your 2006 turns out to be a good one.

It was another traditional Japanese celebration for us this year, complete with mochi, shrine visits, fortunes, charms, special new years cuisine, otoshidama (money gifts for children), and new years cards. It was great time spent with the family, but I'm looking forward to hearing about all the fun and mischief you guys were up to during the holiday. :)

The line up the steps of Inarijinja (our local Shinto Shrine) to say 1st prayers of the new year.

The family after knotting their fortunes to a tree.

2006 is the year of the dog, and these dogs were dressed to celebrate!
