Freeeezing Frustrations
As the winter weather grows colder, many of us in Japan have been feeling very sorry for ourselves and complaining about the lack of insulation and proper heating in this country. I write today in an attempt to put an end to our pathetic "poor little us" attitudes and draw attention to those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Excepting those of you who have yet to experience a moment in Japan sans the influence of alcohol (you know who you are), all of you have noticed by now that Japanese schools are run a bit differently from those in our own countries. An example of this is how my son, Jared, who is in his second year of primary school, is required to wear shorts year-round. In addition, he must walk to school every day, as school rules forbid parents to drive their children even in the worst of weather. Moreover, scarves are prohibited because naive children might inadvertantly strangle their classmates with them.
Still feeling sorry for yourself?...Me too.

Holly shit - I didnt realise there were regulations for such things...Must admit Im still complaining but I hope Jared is complaining more :-)

No, actually Jared never complains and always obeys the rules. He puts me to shame.
I just find it odd that they make kids risk pnemonia by making them dress so inappropriately for the weather, but they won't risk the possibility of the children being killed with a scarf, which can't be that great.
