the Dangers of Horseplay

Jared's class put on a play at his school over the weekend. He had to leave the house early that morning for final preparations and rehearsal. My husband and I planned to sleep in a bit (if our other son, Everett, permitted), as the audience wasn't supposed to show up until later. However, our schedule suddenly changed when we received a phone call shortly after Jared's arrival at school, saying that our son had received a head injury and needed to go to the hospital right away.

Apparently, Jared had been goofing around with a friend when his head was accidentally pushed against a sharp corner, giving him a 2.5 centimeter gash in the back of his head. Blood was everywhere and his head was definitely in need of repair, but I was beyond relieved to find it was not a life or death injury.

The doctor at the emergency room was going to stitch up the cut, but because Jared wanted to make it back to school in time to make his performance, he opted to staple it. And so Jared went on to deliver a fantastic onstage performance. What a trooper!
